Repipe Plumbing Services
It might be hard to imagine, but your home is lined with plumbing pipes. These pipes are responsible for delivering clean water into your home and disposing of wastewater. An important job, no doubt. However, pipes can become corroded or simply outdated.
Vintage homes are charming and full of character—but if your home is older, so are your pipes. If you think it’s time for a plumbing repiping service, Scott Hale has your back.
What is Repiping?
Repiping is the process of replacing your current plumbing pipes with new ones. Issues like frequent clogs, leaks, and low water pressure can all point to old or broken pipes.
A repiping job can be labor intensive, but it’s important. In fact, not replacing your old or damaged pipes can cost you a lot more than a headache.
Signs You Need a Repipe
It’s hard to know if your pipes really need to be replaced without physically seeing them—but there are a few things you can keep an eye (and an ear) out for.
Frequent Leaks
Recurring leaks can wear out your pipe walls. If you’ve fixed a leak and it keeps coming back, take it as a sign that it’s time to figure out a different solution. When pipe walls thin out too much, they become susceptible to bursting.
Rusty Water
A small amount of rust that goes away after running your faucets for a few seconds is okay. What’s not okay is a consistent stream of yellowish-brown water that runs no matter what tap or temperature you use. It is, however, important to note you might have a water heater problem if it’s only your hot water that’s discolored.
Noisy Pipes
Pipes aren’t supposed to bang, clang, and squeal when you turn on the tap. Noisy pipes should raise concerns about pipe damage. If you’re dealing with strange noises in your pipes, don’t ignore them. Instead, call a plumber for a professional pipe inspection.
Pipe Corrosion
You know what they say: rust never sleeps. Take a look at your pipes (if you can). If you see any amount of corrosion, which often looks like rust stains or flaky spots, know that a pipe burst will be imminent unless you get them replaced.
Water Tastes/Smells Bad
Your water should never smell or taste like sulfur. If it does, you could have a corrosion problem. Metal that corrodes and flakes into your drinking and bathing water isn’t safe, so make sure you call a qualified plumber as soon as you notice an issue.
Water Pressure
Fluctuating water pressure is common in older pipes, but it can also indicate problems like sediment build-up. High water pressure can damage your pipes and can even cause them to burst. Sediment build-up can be a sign that your pipes are aging and that a repiping service may be needed.
Fluctuating Temperature
Don’t get mad at someone for flushing the toilet while you’re in the shower. If your shower temperature changes drastically after someone flushes, your pipes are probably to blame. This could be due to the narrowing of your pipes’ walls—something that can happen as they age.
Repiping Process
We have a process for everything, including repiping. If you think (or know) you need your plumbing pipes replaced, you can expect us to be there every step of the way. Here’s how we do it at Scott Hale.
1. Consultation
We’ll send a repipe specialist to assess your pipes and estimate the pipe length and cost. Before we begin repiping, you’ll be given a quote and proposal along with information about financing options if that’s something you need.
2. Prep
We will ask you to remove your belongings from the areas we need to get to. Relocate your items to a safe area, as they must stay there during the repiping installation process. Once you’ve moved your items to a safe, dry location, we will prep your space with floor and furniture coverings.
3. Repipe
Now it’s time for us to remove your old pipes and replace them with new ones. Drain and fixture replacements are usually not included in this. We’ll replace your existing plumbing with PEX. This type of repiping material is made of cross-linked polyethylene. It’s flexible, durable, and is becoming a popular alternative to copper.
4. Finish
Once we’re finished, we’ll wrap everything up with a final inspection to make sure your new pipes work correctly. We will test your water pressure and flush the system out as well. After we’ve tested your new pipework, we will patch up holes and repaint your walls.
Benefits of Repiping
Did you know that a repiping service can take as little as one day? The best part is you’ll experience the benefits of new pipes as soon as we’re finished with our repiping.
✔ Home Value
Any new addition to your home will almost always raise its value. New pipes are attractive to prospective buyers because they know they likely won’t experience issues upon move-in. Plus, it shows you care about your home.
✔ Never Worry About Rust
Orange juice should come out of a carton, not your tap. Repiping your home is the best way to get rid of rust problems in your drinking and bathing water.
✔ Water Pressure
Stop fussing with your faucet handles. New pipes help restore your water pressure, which means you can finally enjoy your showers.
✔ Saves Money
New pipes are a great investment that will save you money in the long haul. Fewer repairs (or none at all) means you can keep extra money in your pockets.
✔ Improve Appliances
Poor water pressure can affect appliances like washing machines and dishwashers. If you’ve ever opened your dishwasher to dirty plates after you’ve run a cycle, a repiping job may work in your favor.
