What Is The Perfect AC Temperature?

“It’s hot in here.” “It’s freezing in here.” “It’s so uncomfortable in here.” Sound familiar? It can certainly be difficult to agree on temperature, especially during the warmer days of the year. So, we pose the question – is there a perfect air conditioning temperature? Let’s dive in!

What Is The Perfect AC Temperature? - Scott Hale

Staying Cool With The Perfect Temperatures

We’d like to start off by telling you there are actually three perfect temperatures. Yes, three.

What do we mean by that?

Well, there’s a perfect temperature for when you’re simply going about your day around the house, there’s a perfect temperature for when you’re away and there’s a perfect temperature for when you’re sleeping.

According to ENERGY STAR, the perfect temperature settings are as follows:

  • When you’re home: 78°F
  • When you’re away: 85°F
  • When you’re sleeping: 82°F

Keep in mind, these are only suggestions. Each person is different and you may have to experiment on your own to find out what works best for you and your family.

If It’s Too Warm

Find these recommended settings to be too warm? We suggest lowering the temperature by one degree at a time until you find what you like. Just note that lowering the temperature will cause your energy bills to rise.

If It’s Too Cold

Still find yourself having to reach for long sleeves or a sweater? Raise the temperature by one degree at a time until you’re comfortable. Doing so will also help you save on energy bills!
