Why You Shouldn’t Hide Your Compressor

One of the best benefits of a central air conditioner is the fact that it doesn’t disrupt the aesthetic inside your home, but the same can’t always be said for the outside.

For many, they might be inclined to cover their condenser or hide it in some manner. We understand it isn’t the most attractive addition to your yard, but covering it can do you more harm than good. Here’s why:

It Causes Blocked Airflow

Your condenser is what houses your fan, condenser coil, evaporator coils and of course, the compressor itself. These all work together to cool off your home correctly. When you cover it, you are making it harder for the heat to properly and you’re blocking airflow. This can lead to higher energy bills and a breakdown.

Keep Bushes Trimmed

If you already placed bushes around your unit to help conceal its bulky appearance, you’ll want to consider planting if possible. If that’s not an option, you’ll want to trim and groom them frequently so that no branches or leaves are folding into the system itself. This can cause a blockage, making your once-cool home warm.

Don’t Forget Trees

The beautiful leafy trees in your yard might cast some nice shade, but they could lead to further issues if not correctly taken care of. In general, make sure your trees are far enough away from the house that they will not be a fire hazard, but close enough to the condenser to provide the shade it needs to cool off.
